A good friend once told me “I won’t die for my country; I will live for my country”. We are already at the Promised Land; we just have to cultivate it. Every admired nation is the result of the doings of men, not angels. A look at an image of that same country, 50 years back will leave you asking “how did they do it?” Well, the answer is “they served”. Nigeria as well has made some undeniable progress over the years, though not optimally.

Pre-installed in every land is a unique capacity for greatness, but it’s only unveiled in service. The crown of a tree doesn’t allow the roots do the work alone, it receives the food which the root stores; like the tree, service to the nation is a responsibility of the grassroots, the top seats and those in-between. We combat the status quo by contributing our quota.

Nations that explore human capacities yield more than those that exploit the ground. There’s a reason for you being here, a part to be played by no one else, figure it out and live up to it. We must maintain a drive for excellence in our leadership, civil service, businesses, education etc. not for the money, but for the fulfilment of purpose. Give your best and give some more. Serve with all your strength and you will be paving the way for countless generations to succeed. Don’t wait for things to happen, make it happen.

“I must do something about this solves more problems than something must be done about this”
